The Government recently pledged to reduce the nation’s CO2 emissions by at least 80% in the next 40 years. With the transport sector currently accounting for almost 24% of emissions, meeting this challenge is one of several which influence the research and development of the performance, fuel economy and emissions of internal combustion engines. How is the automotive industry meeting these imperatives? Where are the new fuels coming from? And how should engine design change to support a sustainable future? How will we adapt existing technologies to meet the more stringent constraints set by EU regulations? As well as the future of the IC engine, we must also consider the current dependence on oil-derived fossil fuels and explore alternatives.
This conference, the latest in this successful biannual series on internal combustion engines, will address drivers of change, technological developments and advances in the latest research. It will look closely at developments for personal transport applications, though many of the drivers of change apply to light and heavy-duty, on and off-highway, transport and other sectors.
The conference will focus on spark ignition engine technology for fuel economy, engine downsizing design and analysis, diesel engine design and analysis, and fuels.
