Overview

Speakers from accident investigation bodies around the world will illustrate best practice investigation processes. The conference will help to generate initiatives to improve participants’ home investigation processes and practice. Workshops will offer bite-sized learning opportunities and the opportunity to gain experience from world-class practitioners. Attendees will be provided with practical advice on how to enhance their use and understanding of accident investigation skills.Delegates will be able to network with others working in similar sectors.

Technical Advantages

Delegates will see evidence from established accident investigation practitioners of applying effective techniques; also those methods that have been found to be difficult or less useful. Actual examples of good practice from recent investigations will be used to illustrate the message. There will be an emphasis on practices that will support delegate’s current and future operations.

Through the structure of the conference programme (in particular the workshops, social events and possible optional visits) delegates will be encouraged to network with others. This should enable the ongoing sharing of investigation developments that will benefit the rail industry as a whole.

Opportunities will be provided in the form of workshops to permit delegates to explore some of the most requested subjects in small classes. There they will have the opportunity to learn in an open forum and to raise matters of topical interest.

The coverage of legal frameworks and setting up new accident organisations were addressed at the 2007 conference. It is not planned to repeat this coverage at the 2010 event, but to build upon practical experience gained in the intervening years.
