The Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Offshore Engineering Committee is launching in 2012 an annual competition for the best individual projects in a mechanical engineering topic related to offshore renewable energy.  The competition is open to students and graduate engineers of all ages:

  • Undergraduate Students (BEng, BSc, MEng)
  • Post Graduate (MSc, MRes, PhD)
  • Industry Based Engineers



Attending this event will help you:

  • Understand the practical issues faced by the operators of offshore renewable energy systems
  • Minimise the risk and maximise the return on investment in the offshore renewable energy sector

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Offshore Engineering Committee is launching in 2012 an annual competition for the best individual projects in a mechanical engineering topic related to offshore renewable energy.  The competition is open to students and graduate engineers of all ages:

  • Undergraduate Students (BEng, BSc, MEng)
  • Post Graduate (MSc, MRes, PhD)
  • Industry Based Engineers

To be eligible, the project must contain a substantial Mechanical Engineering component, be an individual effort and be concerned with Offshore Renewable Energy.

  • Eligible candidates should submit an electronic copy of their final year thesis/report by 1 July 2012 with a covering letter describing how the report relates to mechanical engineering and offshore renewable/low carbon energy
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their projects to a panel at IMechE on 4 September 2012 The final decision will be announced two weeks later with the prize awarded at an IMechE Offshore Engineering event in the autumn of 2012.

The competition offers a unique opportunity particularly for young engineers to:

  • Get noticed by presenting their projects to peers, colleagues and senior managers in the industry
  • Gain experience in presenting technical presentations and refining their presentation and communication skills
  • Career development by enhancing their CV and developing competencies for CEng application
