S1507 - Spinal Biomechanics and use of Materials in Spinal Surgery

1 day Seminar | Completed
Thursday 25 March 2010

Institution of Mechanical Engineers
1 Birdcage Walk
London
SW1H 9JJ United Kingdom

Overview

There have been enormous advances in the application of materials and devices to spinal surgery over the past 20 years, and exciting innovations continue. However, further collaboration and also improved methods of introduction of these devices, remain fundamental to the developments in this field.

This interdisciplinary symposium will bring together engineers, surgeons and scientists to provide an important forum for the exchange of ideas and will address common spinal conditions, linking the basic science to the surgical application.

Convenors:
Mr David Sharp, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Dr Minoo Esat, PhD FIMMM

Technical benefits to attendees

Gain knowledge of the kinematics of spine; replacement of degenerative disc and its effect on the biomechanics. Also learn about the mechanical assessment of novel materials for disc replacement.
