Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) combine information and communications technology with transport infrastructure and vehicles in order to improve safety, ease flows of traffic, reduce fuel consumption, and reduce vehicle wear. Much of the technology needed is already in existence in the UK, but how far away are we from fully developing and deploying such a service? And what might the full benefits and future of ITS be in the UK?
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) has therefore organised this one-day seminar to examine the engineering and technological challenges created by developing and deploying an ITS service in the UK, and to share solutions to these challenges. With presentations by leading figures in the ITS industry, this event will provide a comprehensive update on the latest developments and technologies in delivering ITS to the UK.
- Discuss the future of ITS in the UK in the 2010s and beyond
- Examine ITS’ impact on the environment and the low-carbon agenda
- Hear the Highway Agency’s perspective on the deployment of ITS in the UK
- Listen to the automotive industry’s views on the latest developments of ITS
- Learn how Flexiride aims to provide a secure and affordable alternative to driving
- Discuss how Freeflow turns traffic data into intelligence
- Examine how user innovation, social innovation and mass collaboration can enhance ITS
- Heads of transportation/highways/road safety/traffic services/engineering
- Senior engineers
- Inspectors of road safety
- Operational directors and managers
