Ahmed Kovacevic: Professor in Engineering Design & Compressor Technology, City University

Professor Kovacevic holds prestigious Howden Chair in Engineering Design and Compressor Technology at City University London. His main motto is integration of design excellence in academia and industry which he does through researching, teaching and collaborating with industry in numerical modelling, analysis and design of positive displacement machines. He chairs two International conferences, leads research in the Centre for Compressor Technology at City University, has authored 5 books, more than hundred referenced journal and conference papers, holds rights to several patents and has received 7 awards for his work.

Alistair Mackinnon: Director of Sales and Marketing, Pulsar Process Measurement

Yuri Zhuk: Director, Hardide Coatings Ltd

Dr Yuri Zhuk is a founding Director of Hardide Coatings Ltd, developer and producer of innovative CVD hard coatings used in the Oil and Gas, Aerospace, Flow Control and Advanced Engineering industries. Hardide Coatings Ltd operates two production plants in the UK and the US from which it supplies advanced coatings to blue-chip customers worldwide including the UK, North America and Europe. Dr. Zhuk is responsible for the company’s technology, R&D, patenting, production improvement and applications development programmes. Dr.Zhuk started carrier as a scientist and later became a technology entrepreneur, gaining over 20 years of successful international technology business experience. Yury holds MSc (with Distinction) and PhD degree in Plasma Physics and Chemistry from the Lomonosov Moscow State University and an MBA from the UK Open University, is an author of several patents, scientific and technical publications, presented Hardide at the leading industrial conferences

Brian J Conway: Director, Boulting Group Limited

Brian Conway is Director of Boulting Group’s Pump Management division, a specialist part of the Group focussing on all aspects of pumps and systems. He has been involved in design and development of pumps and systems in various industries for more than 30 years. During the past 15 years, the majority of work has involved testing, analysis and optimisation of pumps and systems in the water industry, both as a consultant and design of pump and station improvements to optimise energy efficiency and reliability. His experience has been mainly in the UK water utilities, providing technical consultancy and having overall design responsibility for pump and system performance improvements, but also in other European countries and the Middle East. He has also been responsible for multi-award winning energy efficiency projects in conjunction with Thames Water.

John Strutt: Director, Astrimar

John Strutt is a chartered engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. As Chief Consultant and Technical Director of Astrimar, he has responsibility for developing the reliability engineering and technical risk assessment and management capability of the company. Before founding Astrimar, John was Chief Consultant with Atkins and prior to that he was Professor of Reliability and Engineering Risk Management at Cranfield University. John has supported many companies in developing their reliability and integrity practices and documentation and is the champion and technical authority for API RP 17N Subsea System Reliability, Technical risk and Integrity Management and for API RP 17Q on technology qualification

Patrick McGauley: Director, Enstrand Consultancy Ltd

Patrick McGauley was the former Chief Petroleum Engineer at BG Group. He has over 30 years experience in the oil and gas business, working on a global portfolio of assets. He has held senior leadership roles including asset manager role, and worked with offshore safety and operations managers to ensure asset integrity and prevention of offshore major accidents and hazards (MAH).

Karl Simons: Head of Health, Safety, Security and Wellbeing, Thames Water

Karl is Head of Health, Safety, Security and Wellbeing at Thames Water and is responsible for the strategic direction of discipline within the business. He has 25 years of experience in industry, having worked across all continents and numerous safety critical industries including oil, gas, minerals, rail, construction and water. He holds a Masters degree in Safety, Health and the Environment, is a Chartered Occupational Safety & Health Practitioner and member of the Institute of Directors and has always a keen student of behavioural psychology. Karl is a regular lecturer at the University of Cambridge and holds a position as Main Board Director for the global organisation Water Sanitation for the Urban Poor. Over the last 5 years at Thames Water Karl has supported the company to develop a clear vision and strategy for each of the disciplines he oversees that has led to the implementation of waves of initiatives and world class performance outcomes.

Paul Holland: Manager – UK Power Industry, Advanced Valve Solutions

Iggy Pont Lezica: Risk & Optimisation Coordinator, Ashford Common & Kempton WTW, Thames Water Utilities Ltd.

Iggy Pont Lezica is a mechanical engineer and has been leading Thames Water’s pumping efficiency programme since 2011. This has included delivering over 50 multidisciplinary projects delivering over 20GWh of energy reductions. This has ranged from traditional pump refurbishments, to novel station control upgrades and full station upgrade projects. During his career at Thames Water Iggy has held a variety of roles, in design teams sizing clean water networks, on site overseeing the construction of new clean water treatment plants and in frontline operational management roles.

Phil Burness: Group Site Services Director, Rotork Controls

Phil Burness is Rotork’s Director of Site Services, responsible for Rotork’s worldwide after sales and engineering projects business. Phil has over thirty years’ experience in process industry service and maintenance activities, including instrument and control system design, implementation and maintenance responsibilities for the chemical, plastics and power generation industries. As Rotork Site Services Director, he works with Rotork’s worldwide sales and service network to continue the development of after sales support, engineering projects and life of plant services.
