Overview
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers is launching its report “Accelerating decarbonisation: a complementary approach using alternative fuels” which looks into the potential for rapidly decarbonising the road transport sector.
Decarbonising road transport is increasingly urgent and important in the race to address climate change as around 25% of UK greenhouse gas emissions come from this sector. The report argues that alternative and synthetic fuels offer an immediate opportunity to accelerate decarbonisation by employing existing technologies in a complementary approach to the long-term transition to fully electric vehicles.
There will be a panel discussion to discuss the issues raised by the report and its recommendations. The discussion will feature:
Paul Jones, the report’s co-author and Chair of the Institution’s Automobile Division
Steve Sapsford, co-author and Chair of the Institution’s Powertrain Systems and Fuels Group
Dr Jenifer Baxter, Chief Engineer at the Institution
