Overview
The UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) Challenge is an
international student drone design competition organised by the Institution of
Mechanical Engineers. This year the event has attracted a record 36 teams
comprising of hundreds of young engineers from the UK and abroad. Participants
will travel to the fly off event in June from as far afield as Pakistan, Sri
Lanka, Canada, Denmark, Netherlands, India, Turkey and Bangladesh.
In the Challenge, teams are to assume that a natural
disaster has occurred, with a large stretch of remote coastal area devastated
by an earthquake and tsunami. The aircrafts have to carry out a humanitarian
mission to deliver aid to the affected area. Students are also required to
deliver a number of reports in line with industry standards: Concept Paper,
Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review and Flight Readiness Review
staged over a 9-month period.
The project culminates in a 3-day fly- off event where teams
will come together to test their aircrafts and compete for 11 coveted awards.
The final event is
not open to spectators. For any other queries please contact uaschallenge@imeche.org.
