Overview
This year's Thomas Hawksley Lecture will be presented by Juergen Maier, CEO, Siemens.
At a time when productivity and re-industrialisation are being internationally debated, what are the challenges and opportunities for the UK?
Subject to global consumer trends, accelerating technology development and national economic imperatives, the world of manufacturing is changing. Manufacturing will need to accommodate greater resource efficiency, becoming fundamentally reliant on technology, given the emergence of a digital thread that increasingly connects design, manufacturing and services. This lecture will explore this shift in industrialisation, highlighting how you must evolve in these changing times.
Whether we capitulate or capitalise on this opportunity depends on the next steps taken by policy makers, educators, financiers and manufacturers themselves. Early indications suggest that a 30% industrial productivity improvement is possible, so join Juergen and find out the potential that the UK has to offer and where developments are needed.
Juergen is passionate about the UK re-balancing its economy and supports a number of UK-wide initiatives in support of manufacturing and engineering skills, including Board Membership of the Sector Skills council SEMTA and the EEF (UK’s Manufacturers’ Organisation), alongside championing various Government initiatives such as UK’s High Value Manufacturing Catapults.
