Overview
The growth in railway investment and the present staffing age profile will require a big increase in the size and skills of the rail industry’s engineering workforce.
Neil Roberston, CEO, National Skills Academy for Rail (NSARE,) Simon Rennie, General Manager, National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR,) and Scott-James Eley, Skills and Employment Strategy Manager, HS2, will examine the serious skills gap that is developing for railway engineers at all levels due to the growth in major railway infrastructure and rolling stock projects.
They will share what their organisations are doing to fill this gap so they can create the rail workforce of the future
The lecture will summarise the scale of the potential problem and describe how a national strategy is being developed for its solution. The lecture will also describe:
- The National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR), located in Northampton, which opened in October 2015, and which will focus on Traction & Rolling Stock and Leadership skills
- The National College for High Speed Rail (NCHSR), to be constructed on two sites in Birmingham and Doncaster
