Overview
As pressures on capacity and passenger safety increase, this lecture will provide insight into innovations for getting on and off trains quickly and safely.
Presented by: Professor Nick Tyler CBE FREng, Chadwick Professor of Civil Engineering, UCL
Helping to make getting on and off trains as quickly and safely as possible is becoming increasingly critical to maximise line capacity, whilst reducing the current significant level of slips, trips and falls at the platform train interface.
Professor Tyler will explain the work of his department in looking at this from both an engineering and human physiology point of view.
Topics will include:
• Boarding and alighting trains in stations is critical to the system capacity
• High capacity depends on good design of train and platform
• An artistic approach to performance helps to sharpen the design criteria
