ON THE BARRIERS ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ISO STANDARD FOR CFRP
DRILLED HOLE QUALITY
Kevin Kerrigan, Head Composite Machining Group, AMRC
• Currently, individual companies apply internal company quality standards to holes drilled in
composite materials
• The understanding of the effect of different damage types requires an additional understanding of
the effect of such damage upon the mechanical performance of a composite component
• With a change in material properties, there is a requirement to re-qualify the effect of such damage,
leading to the need for advanced testing frameworks and the use of virtual tools such as finite
element analysis to accelerate the qualification process
