Bruce Arnold: Managing Director, Inspexions

Bruce developed his career in the built environment following 35 years service as a nuclear engineer officer in the Royal Navy, which included 3 years as the Head of Maritime Resources and Infrastructure at NATO HQ in the USA. Bruce is the immediate past Chairman of the IMechE Construction and Building Services Division, a technical author and QA auditor for the Awarding Body for the Build Environment and a practising Class 2 infrared thermographer specialising in dispute resolution investigations. Bruce is particularly interested in historic buildings and traditional building techniques, identifying shortfalls between ‘as-designed’ and ‘as-built’ new buildings and the impact of embodied energy on through-life sustainability considerations.

Keith Maynard: Chairman, UK Thermography Authority

Keith’s construction career has taken him across several continents working for contractors, consultants, manufacturers, developers and end-user clients. From power stations and paper mills to theme parks and thermography Keith now devotes his time as Chairman of UKTA (United Kingdom Thermography Authority) In addition to new build construction, life-cycle and maintenance of new and historic buildings has and will be a constant challenge to which Keith applies his world-wide construction experience in order to re-inject new technologies and techniques into the familiar patterns. Thermography is one of these technologies – whilst not new, its applications are emerging and require encouragement and competence of those involved. Keith is enthusiastically applying himself to these challenges.

Ray Faulkner: Managing Director, iRed Ltd

Ray Faulkner, founder and Managing Director of iRed Ltd, started the company in 2002 before thermography became recognised as a mainstream NDT discipline. As a PCN cat 3 Thermographer, Ray served for many years as the Vice Chair of the UKTA promoting the need for certified training and Chairing the ‘Building Thermography’ specialist group with an emphasis on developing repeatable and objective inspection techniques. He currently sits on the BINDT Working Group that oversees the PCN certification scheme and the BSI working group for ISO Standards involving thermography. With over fifteen years aviation experience as a jet captain with KLMuk, it was a logical progression to employ this experience in developing mast based aerial surveys and then UAVs or drones capable of capturing full radiometric data for later analysis.

Sat Sandhu: Thermography Services Support Manager, Fluke

Over 34 years of experience in the Infrared industry and as a level3 thermographer.

Started working career at Plessey designing Integrated Circuits Cs for 2D Pyroelectric detectors. Moved on to Marketing Manager for advanced optoelectronic products for telecommunications applications.

Joined Irisys in 2000 and worked in a variety of roles. As a start-up company this required taking on a wide area of responsibilities including Sales and end user training in thermal imaging technology and products, product management and launch of new thermal imagers.

With the acquisition of Irisys by Fluke in 2012, moved to provide technical, application and training support for the full range of thermal imagers.

Colin Pearson: Building Performance Consultant, BSRIA

Colin has worked in engineering for building services since 1975. He started with Thorn Lighting spending 4 years in various design and development roles while completing a degree in Environmental Engineering. He worked in the design department of an engineering contractor for 5 years and in building research for a Government Department for 11 years. On joining BSRIA in 1995 he worked on an EPSRC funded project to develop safe methods of thermal imaging electrical installations in collaboration with 25 academic and industrial partners. He moved into developing advanced methods for thermography of buildings and is currently working on an EU funded research project, Built2Spec, looking at the use of infrared cameras for early checking of building fabric thermal insulation during construction. He has 20 years of building thermography experience and has written 13 publications for BSRIA and others.
