Overview
A Visual Overview of High Speed Two-Phase Flow and Phenomena for Cooling of Future Electronics.
The efficient thermal management of electronic devices and systems containing ever more powerful electronics is a hot engineering topic. To reduce the energy consumption to cool these electronics, two-phase cooling using flow boiling in multi-micro-channel heat sinks is an emerging thermal solution and one that will be addressed as part of this lecture.

Professor John Thome: PROFESSOR OF HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER, SWISS FEDERAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
John R. Thome is Professor of Heat and Mass Transfer at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland since 1998. He is the author of five books and has published widely (over 50 journal papers in the past three years) on the fundamental aspects of microscale and macroscale two-phase flow and boiling/condensation heat transfer and micro-two-phase cooling systems. He has proposed over 100 two-phase flow and heat transfer prediction methods applicable to macro and micro scale processes, including his wide used flow pattern based methods. His editor-in-chief of the newly published 8-volume series Encyclopedia of Two-Phase Heat Transfer and Flow with 57 contributing authors. Among his various awards, these include the ASME 1998 Journal of Heat Transfer Best Paper Award and the ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award.
