Overview
This lecture is to be given by world leading researchers Professor Russell H Taylor from Johns Hopkins University and Professor Just L. Herder from Delft University of Technology.
This lecture is to overview the past development and the state of the art in robotics for healthcare particularly on surgery and rehabilitation with various development, applications and commercialisations over the world. In particular, the path in the past 30 years will be reviewed and the new technologies are to be disclosed and presented with their newly available commercialised products and development and with several start-up company developments.
The second part of the Lecture is to provide the forecast of the next phase in the development particularly in the next 30 years development on robotics for healthcare with home care and with hospital care. The development would utilise the integrated mechatronics system, the mechanisms systems and the AI systems. With the AI development, the mechanisms and mechatronics based robotic platforms will have a step-change and flying effect on the society and on the community to generate the next generation of AI-Mechatronics-Society development.

Professor Russell H. Taylor: Director, Engineering Research Center for Computer-Integrated Surgical Systems and Technology, Johns Hopkins University
Russell H. Taylor received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford in 1976. He joined IBM Research in 1976, where he developed the AML robot language and managed the Automation Technology Department and (later) the Computer-Assisted Surgery Group before moving in 1995 to Johns Hopkins, where he is the John C. Malone Professor of Computer Science with joint appointments in Mechanical Engineering, Radiology, and Surgery and is also Director of the Laboratory for Computational Sensing and Robotics (LCSR) and of the (graduated) NSF Engineering Research Center for Computer-Integrated Surgical Systems and Technology (CISST ERC). He is a Fellow of the IEEE, of the AIMBE, of the MICCAI Society, of the National Academy of Inventors, and of the Engineering School of the University of Tokyo. He is also a recipient of numerous awards, including the Maurice Müller Award for Excellence in Computer-Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery the IEEE Robotics Pioneer Award, the MICCAI Society Enduring Impact Award, the IEEE EMBS Technical Field Award, and the Honda Prize. His research interests include medical robotics and computer-integrated interventional medicine.
Professor Just Herder: Chair of the Mechatronic System Design Group and Head of Department of Precision and Microsystems Engineering, Delft University of Technology
