Overview
The Great North Rail Project (GNRP) is a multi-billion pound programme of improvements to transform train travel for customers in the North of England. It will bring about a vast range of benefits including enhancements to capacity, reliability, journey times, connections and customer experiences.
This year's annual Railway Division Young Members Technical Forum will be a series of presentations on the GNRP, including specific projects within the programme of works and the delivery of new Rolling Stock to support the infrastructure enhancements.

James Hill: Project Engineer, Eversholt Rail
Fleet Engineer for Eversholt UK Rails Group, focused on supporting the ERG Fleets operating on the Arriva Rail North and First TransPennine Express franchises, which has included the procurement and delivery of the C331 & C195 fleets for ARN. I am a member of the IMechE and am coming to the end of my MPDS scheme so will be looking to achieve chartered status in the next 6-12 months. I am actively involved in promoting the Rail Industry to the next generation of talent and am currently on the Young Rail Professionals (YRP) National Executive Committee.
Dale Jones: Project Engineer (Developments), Network Rail
I’m an assistant Project Engineer at Network Rail, working in the Northern Programmes team covering the development portfolio. I’m in a systems engineering role, which I’ve been in for a year, predominantly working on Northern Powerhouse Rail. As part of this I’ve been involved with the early development of requirements for the programme and engineering assurance. I’ll be giving a brief overview of what Northern Powerhouse Rail is in the presentation, along with an overview of the other programmes within the development team.
Matthew Davies: Project Engineer (Track), Network Rail
Matthew Davies is currently a track PE for Network Rail. He started his Railway career in August 2008 with First engineering LTD in which he was an apprentice. Once Matthew completed his 3 year apprenticeship he gained an engineer’s position in delivering plain line track renewals across the North West. Then in February 2016 he moved over to Network Rail as a Track Project Engineer working on various projects across the North West based out of Manchester SQ1 office. Matthew has recently graduated and gained a BEng in Railway Engineering with a 1st class Honours which he completed part time whilst working. Matthew is continuing to learn and develop his Railway knowledge.
