Overview
This webinar will discuss the value that SIMULIA CFD tools can bring to product design and engineering. This value can be taken as the impact that these tools have on the final product – not only its performance, but the time to market and cost. SIMULIA are committed to the democratisation of CAE tools in engineering, which means that providing highly accurate and rapid CAE results is only the start. It is vital that the results can be created robustly, with minimum user effort, and match up with the expectations of the design process.
SIMULIA CFD solutions are being used extensively in the Automotive and Aerospace Industries, where we are not only able to provide unique insights into the fluid flows, but have gained such a level of confidence with our tools that we have been able to replace physical testing completely, and even cases where certification can be carried out virtually using SIMULIA tools. We will show some examples where CFD has been used to change the engineering paradigm.

Joe Amodeo: Director for Fluids, Simulia
Joe is the Director for Fluids for Simulia in EuroNORTH. and also has a global role related to automation of all products in the Simulia portfolio.
Joe has been working in the field of fluid dynamics since graduating from Cambridge University in 1992, and gaining a subsequent PhD from Imperial College. Joe joined Jaguar Cars as an aerodynamicist in 1998. Joe was responsible for the aerodynamic development of a number of Jaguar vehicles, primarily using physical tests methods such as wind tunnel and track testing. However, Joe soon gravitated toward computation methods, and was heavily involved in the assessment and then subsequent deployment of CFD for JLR. Joe became the Technical Specialist for Aerodynamics for JLR, but left JLR to join Exa in 2005, as their first UK employee, in order to focus exclusively on the field of CFD using the PowerFLOW toolset.
At Exa Joe was heavily involved in the development and deployment of the PowerFLOW toolset for automotive and motorsport across the world. After spending a number of years working with Formula 1 teams on advanced methods, particularly in the field of Unsteady Aerodynamics, Joe returned to managing and advancing the deployment of CFD at JLR.
JLR and Exa started a strategic partnership in 2009, with a view to developing a world class digital engineering environment for CFD users. This joint effort resulted in a massive expansion of CAE capabilities for JLR, not only in the field of aerodynamics, but also Water & Dirt Management, Thermal Management, Aeroacoustics, and Cabin Comfort. This partnership not only resulted in cutting edge digital engineering capabilities, but also state of the art automation.
In 2017 Exa was acquired by Dassault Systèmes, as part of their Simulia Brand. Joe now manages a 15 strong team that continues and expands this work, now dedicated to the deployment of all Simulia Fluids tools in all Industries across EuroNORTH.
