Professor Suman Shrestha: Vice President of Applications Engineering, Keronite
After an MSc in Mechanical Design Engineering from St. Petersburg and a PhD in Materials Engineering from Glasgow, Suman spent five years at TWI Ltd helping aerospace and oil & gas industries working on a wide variety of surface technologies, including, then a relatively new, Keronite plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) technology during its early establishment in 2000. He subsequently joined Keronite Plc in 2005 to focus on research, application development and commercial exploitation of the PEO technology on light alloys for aerospace, automotive and semi-conductor industries including Airbus, Boeing, ESA, Innovate UK.
With over 200 confidential industry reports, Suman has also published over 65 journal & conference papers including two patents and one pending. He has worked in the capacity of Symposium Organiser, Chair and Scientific Committee member for Intl. Conferences such as SMT21-Paris, SMT22-Trollhattan, Euromat 2009-Glasgow, Euromat 2011-Montpellier, SMT29-Copenhagen, SMT30-Milan, SMT31-Mons, Eurobrake 2017-Dresden, SMT32-San-Sebastian and SMT33-Naples.
He was offered a USSR scholarship to pursue his engineering degree in St. Petersburg and later received Glasgow University Postgraduate and Overseas Research Scholarship (ORS) awards to pursue his PhD. He is a recipient of Lenin Gramota and Red Diploma (highest achievements in education) from Russia followed by Nepal’s two highest educational decorations ‘order of the Mahendra Vidyabhushan Medals’ from His late Majesty King Birendra. He is a Visiting Professor and Industrial Advisory Board member for the University of Leeds and is on the Editorial Board for Journals of i) ‘Surface Engineering’, ii) ‘Tribology - Materials, Surfaces & Interfaces’ and iii) ‘American Journal of Aerospace Engineering’. He is a Chartered Engineer; Chartered Scientist; Fellow (IOM3) and Fellow (IMechE).
