Overview
As of 31 August 2023: Please note that the Networking Dinner for this lecture is at capacity and any further bookings made onto the Networking Dinner made will now not be accepted.
With no credible pathway to 1.5°C in place today and the impacts of climate change induced heat extremes already being felt across the globe, Professor Toby Peters will explore why he believes cooling and cold-chains must be seen as critical infrastructure for a well-functioning, well adapted, resilient and healthy society and economy; as vital as a water-pipe, electricity cable or road, and how we currently approach cooling provision in adaptation to higher temperatures will play a critical role in fuelling or mitigating global warming.
The Lecture follows on from the Institution’s recent report ‘Adapting Industry to Withstand Rising Temperatures and Future Heatwaves’. It also coincides with the IMechE Process Industries Division’s 1st International Conference and Workshop on Climate Adaptation and Resilience, taking place from 6-8 September 2023.
The Lecture will close with a panel discussion featuring key stakeholders from industry, academia, and government. It will be followed by a networking drinks reception which is free and open to all.
