Overview
Join us at the Institution's London headquarters at One Birdcage Walk for the Presidential Address of our 139th president Clive Hickman OBE FREng CEng FIMechE, who will deliver his inaugural address as the Institution’s 139th President.
Having begun his career as an apprentice, Clive’s impressive career culminated in him becoming CEO and now Chair of the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry. He will be draw on his experiences from throughout this journey, articulating a vision for how the engineering profession can and should embrace manufacturing.
Clive’s address will examine the key role that manufacturing plays both within industry, and at the heart of a successful national economy. He will also look forward to the adoption of AI, Robotics, and other advanced manufacturing solutions. Technology’s impact will permeate society, reshaping industries and the workforce to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and change the nature of work; but how do engineers as a community convey the message that automation will create, not destroy jobs?
