In 2018, the Technical Tour of the Railway Division of the IMechE will visit northern Italy and southeastern Switzerland. The outline itinerary includes visits to railway, metro and tram workshops, a rolling stock manufacturing plant, public transport operations, a railway superstructure research centre, a tunnel construction site and a journey on a world heritage railway, as well as a visit to the museum that covers the construction of the line. The tour is being organised by the technical tour committee of the railway division and will be led by Felix Schmid and Bridget Eickhoff. View the programme tab for the draft itinerary. Indicative cost for travel from Pisa / Florence to Zürich as per itinerary, including hotel accommodation, local transport and services of English-speaking tour guides: • £830 per person for two people sharing, on a bed and breakfast basis • £980 single rooms, on a bed and breakfast basis Travel to the start and return travel can be booked as part of the tour but will attract additional cost.
