Emissions legislation, and the need to reduce CO2 and fuel consumption, are the major market drivers in the transport and industry sectors. In these sectors, the key product is the internal combustion (IC) engine.
In order to meet legislation, the IC engine has had to evolve. Advances in turbocharging systems (air delivery) and fuel injection (combustion equipment) enable cleaner power, more efficiently. Ever more-stringent market drivers (Euro V & VI, EPA etc) are pushing the evolution further presenting a series of challenges: flow range, pressure ratio, efficiency, response, reliability, durability and compactness, to name but a few.
This international event is the latest in a series of highly successful and prestigious conferences, held every four years since 1978. It will cover all current aspects of design and development of turbochargers, turbocharging systems, other pressure charging devices and their associated systems.
The focus will be on the application of turbocharger and other pressure charging devices to the internal combustion engines in the passenger car, truck and bus, off-highway, rail traction, industrial and marine market sectors.
Papers will focus on:
- Novel turbocharging solutions with impact on emissions, particulate matter, CO2, and improvements in efficiency, for downsizing of internal combustion engines
- Aerodynamic design with consideration of heat transfer in applications to variable geometry, turbine pulsations, compressor operational limits and microturbos
- Mechanical design and rotodynamic considerations for improved fatigue-life, noise, vibration and robustness
- Quality issues relating to manufacturing, including low-cost high-temperature materials, durability, operational reliability and in-service issues
- High-boost applications; single-stage, two-stage, sequential, direct and differential turbocompounding, supercharging, variable geometry, electric assist, including transient response and efficiency
- Packaging, installation on the engine and interaction, calibration and control
- Advanced simulation techniques for matching multi-dimensional modelling CFD and FEA techniques and integration with matching techniques
- Advance testing and development facilities
