Overview
In November 2009 the Government launched the UK Composites Strategy. This highlights the importance of composites to the future of UK manufacturing and the Government's plans for ensuring that the UK has the means to succeed in intensely competitive global markets.
Peter Chivers has extensive experience in composites and technology leadership, having held a number of senior engineering and business leadership positions in large multinational companies and SME’s in the aerospace industry. He has been involved in composite technology and capability development for over 20 years.
Composites play a significant role in the future of High Value Manufacturing, an areas for blue chip and SMEs alike where the UK has international competitive advantage.

Professor Peter Chivers: Chief Executive, National Composites Centre
Peter is Chief Executive of the National Composites Centre in Bristol, which he has developed from early concept through to a fully functioning and continually expanding centre of excellence in composites technology development. The Centre has grown rapidly, now employing more than 230 (January 2017) expert staff supporting industry across more than 15 sectors to capitalise on the benefits of this rapidly developing field of high value manufacturing. An internationally recognised centre in the field of composite innovation and technology development, the NCC works closely with industrial partners and is a partner of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult.
Peter is a passionate believer in using new technology to bring value. He is committed to supporting the UK composite manufacturing industry’s growth and increasing its contribution to the economy.
Peter has extensive experience in composites and technology leadership, having held a number of senior engineering and business leadership positions in large multinational companies and SMEs in the aerospace industry. He has been involved in composite technology and capability development for over twenty years.
Peter is a Board Director of the trade association Composites UK, a visiting Professor at the University of Bristol, Chair of the Technology Working Group of the Composites Leadership Forum and a Fellow of both the Royal Aeronautical Society and the Institute of Minerals, Mining, and Materials
