Presented by: Professor Philip John, Head of the School of Engineering, Cranfield University This lecture is free to attend and open to members and non members. Technology is at the heart of almost all aspects of our lives today and the pace of technological development and its introduction to society is increasing at an unprecedented rate. This offers great opportunities for economic progress and for improving the well-being and safety of people. Modern technologically-intensive systems are also increasingly complex and this in itself presents significant challenges to engineers that must be recognised and tackled if these benefits are to be achieved. This lecture will explore the nature of those challenges and considers their implications for the Engineering profession and its relationship with society as a whole."
