Bill Reeve: Commercial Director, Transport Scotland

Bill Reeve joined Transport Scotland to establish its new rail team, following the devolution of rail powers to the Scottish Parliament in 2005. He also leads the programme to introduce integrated smart ticketing across all public transport modes in Scotland. As well as his Transport Scotland role, Bill is the Independent Chair of the new Rail North Partnership Board. Bill is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and recently served as Chairman of its Railway Division.

Rob Daffern: Principal Engineer, Furrer+Frey GB

Rob Daffern joined the graduate scheme at Balfour Beatty, where he then became principal technical officer OLE at Balfour Beatty Rail Ltd after receiving his Master of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Sheffield, After that he joined Network Rail as a contact systems engineer, became chartered with the IMechE in 2005 then transferred to senior maintenance support engineer OLE, finally moving onto a senior project engineer OLE role for the Great eastern OLE renewal project. In 2013 he joined Furrer+Frey GB ltd as principal engineer and is now a director of Furrer+Frey GB and responsible engineer for electrification design for EGIP and Great Western Tunnels.

Garry Keenor: Group Engineer & CRE Overhead Line for Lead Design Organisation (Atkins), GW Electrification

Garry Keenor is Group Engineer with Atkins and acts as their Technical Authority for OLE. He is a career electrification engineer with over 25 years’ experience of contact systems, and has worked in the UK and overseas. He is currently acting as Contact Systems Specialist for Atkins’ design contract for Great Western Electrification. As such he oversees the development of the OLE allocation design from Maidenhead to Bristol, covering 210 route kms of electrification, and provides technical integration for OLE design teams in multiple design houses and countries as well as the link into NR’s OLE system design team.

Nick Woodbridge: Principal Programme Client (GWML), Department for Transport

Nick Woodbridge has spent the last 8 years working on transformational change projects with the railway industry as a project professional. He initially started out project managing passive fire protection projects on the Victoria line. He then moved onto the design consultancy, Scott Wilson. Where he managed the integration of Terrence Lee Partnership into the wider organisation and other project across a varied portfolio. He then moved onto SercoDocklands and was tasked with upgrading the resilience of the DLR in time for the Olympic Games. He is now the Departments, Principal Client for the Great Western Route Modernisation. Nick is not an engineer by trade but has been lucky enough learn his project management trade within the backdrop of the Mechanical & Electrical discipline.

Peter Dearman: Bechtel, Electrification Advisor

Peter Dearman is a qualified Electrical and Mechanical Rail Engineer with a background in traction electrification. He began his career at British Rail in 1970 and now has over 40 years of experience in rail engineering and operations. Peter has held some senior and varied roles within British Rail, Railtrack and Network Rail, as well as positions in Atkins, Jarvis and Systra. In his last role at Network Rail, he was Head of Energy, responsible for defining the engineering content and strategic development of the network electrification programme. He is currently working as part of the Bechtel team supporting the Engineering of the Great Western Electrification project.

Phil Doughty: Professional Head of Contact Systems, Network Rail

Phil Doughty is the Professional Head of Contact Systems at Network Rail where he is responsible for providing technical and safety leadership for Contact Systems engineering within Network Rail and the wider industry. Phil is an experienced Contact Systems engineer with a comprehensive understanding of the railway industry, engineering standards, risk management and legislation. In his current role Phil is accountable for Network Rail’s Contact System Asset Management Policy and standards, defining the engineering technical rules and controls. Phil represents the UK at a number of European railway committees including EN 50119 drafting group where he is the convener.

Steve Cox: Engineering & Technical Director S&I UK, Alstom

Steve Cox is an industry leader in railway electrification with approaching 25 years of experience gained in the UK and internationally, having worked on the first high speed electrification scheme in the USA (Boston to New Haven) and on most of the recent main UK schemes including Trent Valley Four Tracking, Rugby Station Remodelling, Airdrie to Bathgate, Thameslink and Liverpool to Manchester, EGIP and Crossrail. In Alstom Steve leads the engineering function across the Systems, Signalling and Infrastructure business and is responsible for engineering professional development, governance and setting engineering strategy as well as ensuring delivery on time, to budget and to the required quality. He is passionate about safe by design practices, driving innovation and encouraging collaborative working.

Sebastien Lustro: Rail Electrification Director, TSO Caténaires

Sebastien Lustro is a qualified Electrical and Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in rail electrification. He began his career in 1998 and has now over 15 years of experience in rail infrastructure design and build contracts. Sebastien has led power supply and electrification delivery on a number of key projects for Alstom and Vinci both in the France and overseas. He joined TSO in 2013 and is now leading the development and operations of TSO electrification business in the UK, which is based in London with in house design and build capability.

Rishi Ravindran: Depot Engineering Manager, Great Western Railway

Rishi Ravindran is the Depot Engineering Manager at GWR responsible for the H&S, local policies, training, audit, and technical investigations for the London & Thames Valley Engineering operations. His experience also included the migration of activities from Reading Turbo depot to the new Train Care Depot. He is also the Engineering Lead for EMU introduction. The main responsibilities entail, the mobilisation of new sites, technical introduction of EMUs on the Great Western Mainline, Series 1 OLE compatibility, policies, H&S, and training to support new fleet introduction. Previous to this, Rishi has undertaken various engineering roles such as Production Manager, Site Engineer and new trains Commissioning Engineer.

Phil Hinde: Principal Engineer, Rolling Stock and Depots, Crossrail

Phil Hinde joined British Rail in 1972 before studying engineering at Cambridge University. After an early career with electrification and plant he moved into trains, as manager of Selhurst depot; then project managing introduction of the Electrostar fleet on the commuter routes from London to Kent and Sussex. He is now technical lead for rolling stock at Crossrail. Phil has served on several European committees framing ENs and TSIs and has represented UK on industry groups developing environmental, energy management and safety standards.
