Overview
The lecture will outline new developments in sensors and sensing, as an area that is vital for the manufacturing industry, as well as for many industrial sectors like aerospace, oil and gas, power generation and nuclear. The lecture will focus on new technology for a range of optical sensors for pressure, temperature and acceleration measurement and will showcase industrial applicability via state of the art case studies. The global business environment will also be outlined, together with the identification of new trends and requirements from key sectors.

Ian Macafee: Chief Executive Officer, Oxsensis
Ian Macafee is a Mechanical Engineering graduate (Birmingham University) and is a Fellow of the IMechE. He has worked in the gas turbine Powergeneration businesses of GEC, Alstom, and Rolls-Royce and has developed cogeneration power projects in RWE (UK). Since 2010 Ian has been CEO of Oxsensis, which is a UK venture capital backed business, bringing harsh environment instrumentation to the land/air gas turbine , airframe, and oil & gas markets. This has involved building partnerships with large industrial companies, research and development, and the development of manufacturing capability to address Aerospace supply chain requirements.
