Due to the Net-Zero target, carbon emissions of the boilers need to be reduced and eventually removed entirely both for conventional types and boilers powered by alternative fuels. This has further encouraged huge growth in the global Waste to Energy sector which is predicted to have a CAGR of 4.6% from 2020 to 2027.
This year’s user group will take place within the context of aiming towards a zero-carbon future covering topics including emissions, CCS and preparing boiler technology for net-zero.
It will address issues relating to all aspects of the design, operation, and maintenance of power boilers (fired boiler plant associated with power generation) with a wide scope of plant areas and fuels, including waste, biomass, and fossil fuels.
The 2021 user group will also consider the impact of Brexit on power boilers, from the revised Industrial Emissions Directive BREF to procurement of replacement plant components.
In addition, many of the more recently built boiler plant e.g., energy from waste and biomass have seen or are planning their first round of substantive pressure part replacements and/or other modifications/improvements and the event will aim to consider the challenges and opportunities associated with this.
CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS EXTENDED - SUBMIT YOUR WORK BEFORE 14 MAY 2021:
The Institution warmly invites you and your colleagues to present your work and share your findings at this year's User Group. The Boiler User Group is concerned with all aspects of ‘fired boilers’ through the whole life cycle of the plant, including:
Plant life extension
Statutory compliance e.g. PSSR/PER
Environmental compliance (emissions)
Decommissioning and demolition
The following plant/technical areas are of interest:
Pressure systems (tubing, headers, drums, pipework, fittings etc.)
Structures (supports and framing)
Ducts, dampers and expansion joints
Boiler auxiliary plant (fans, air heaters, sootblowers etc.)
Combustion systems (mills, burners, fluidised beds, grates etc.)
Fuel characterisation, impact and flexibility
Flue gas clean up plant (ESP, FGD, SCR, CCS etc.)
Bulk materials handling plant (fuel, ash, dust etc.)
Water treatment plant and steam/water chemistry
Control and instrumentation (including protection systems)
Fire management and design/fire and explosion risks
Environmental aspects including the impact of the IED BREF on plant operation
Power from biomass
Energy from Waste
Please submit a short summary of your proposed presentation, which should include the following information:
- Your full name and contact details
- A working title for your presentation
- A 150 - 200 word summary of the topic/case study that you intend to cover and its application within industry
Please submit your summary before 14 May 2021 to email@example.com
