Gery Fossaert: Principle Simulation Engineer, Cosworth

Gery has nearly a decade of experience in the field of simulation across a broad range of engineering disciplines, working for Jaguar Land Rover and MAHLE Powertrain before joining Cosworth 2 years ago. He started his career researching, developing, and delivering thermal systems. After this time, Gery focused specifically on modelling of thermal systems and expanded his modelling expertise to include vehicle, powertrain, and battery systems. Gery joined Cosworth as a battery modelling and simulation engineer where his experience of modelling techniques and understanding of battery systems will be pivotal in planning of future High Performance Battery Systems for Cosworth.

Suresh Kumar Sivasankaran: TS Thermal Heat transfer Vehicle Engineering Efficiency, Jaguar Land Rover

Suresh has several years of experience working at Jaguar Land Rover. He works as Technical Specialist in Vehicle Efficiency group at JLR. His primary responsibility lies in ensuring the optimal thermal robustness of vehicle by identifying and resolving all anticipated thermal issues much ahead of vehicle prototype to deliver robust thermal vehicle for customer safety. He has significantly contributed in developing several thermal robustness 3D CAE/CFD process and methods to predict and solve thermal robustness and efficiency issues at virtual vehicle development stage.

Currently manager of the chemistry department within the materials laboratory at Valeo Thermal Systems, Isabelle is also a materials Expert. She holds a doctorate in Electrochemistry and has worked at Valeo since 1998, first as an Engineer then as a Project Manager in the R&D department. As an Expert, she is currently developing Valeo’s knowledge of dielectric fluids and provides technical support to project teams in their development of battery cooling management systems for electric vehicles.

Christian Macri: Technical Business Development Manager – Refrigerants, Daikin Chemical Europe

Christian currently is Technical Business Development Manager for Refrigerants in Europe at Daikin Chemical Europe. Starting in January 2023, he is responsible for setting up the strategy and identifying project opportunities in the EU, targeting key stakeholders in the value chain like car manufacturers, component manufacturers and automotive Tier1s across Europe. Previously, he was working at KYB Europe as Product Planning an Strategy Manag-er for suspension and steering components aiming to further enhance the European business landscape. Christian gained his thermal management background through various positions and roles at Denso Automotive where, at the end, he was Head of Section Compressor Application and Program Manager for a Thermal Management System.

Pablo Santirso: Cooling System 1D CAE Analyst, Jaguar Land Rover

Graduated in Industrial Engineering and specialized in Mechanical Engineering by the University of Vigo (Spain), he worked in Barcelona as BI consultant in Volkswagen-Audi-Skoda group for a couple of years learning data analytics. Later, he moved to Oxford Brookes University, where he graduated on MsC of Racing Engine Desing and then joined TATA Motors European Technical Centre (TMETC) located in Warwick University There, he started to work as CAE engineer in a thermal fluid position, developing full vehicle system simulation with the goal of reducing the fuel consumption in the vehicles TATA HEXA and TATA Tiago Joined JLR in 2018 as a CAE 1D analyst to continue the development of thermal vehicle simulations, this time based on the validation of the vehicle performance. He quickly moved into a BEV role where he worked with JLR to transform the process and simulation models in an electric world.

Stefano De Antonellis: Associate Professor, Energy Department, Politecnico di Milano

Associate Professor at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, he holds a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Energy Engineering. His research is related to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems for low energy buildings, with a particular focus on open Desiccant Evaporative Cooling (DEC) cycles driven by low temperature heat sources. At present he mainly works, through physical modelling and experimental analysis, on the development of indirect evaporative coolers, of air-to-air heat exchangers and of innovative devices for air dehumidification and humidification based on sorption materials and membranes. The research activity focuses on the effective integration of cooling, heating and power (CHP) systems, with particular interest to ones based on Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs), in industrial, commercial and residential applications. Since 2007, he has been involved in several private and public projects. He is co-author of about fifty articles and papers in international journals and conferences and author of one patent. He is teaching “Fundamentals of air conditioning” at the Degree Course in Energy Engineering and he is scientific responsible of the “Air Handling Unit” research line and of “DEC_Lab” activities of the group.

Giovanni Fiore: Worldwide SIMULIA Fluids, Industry Process Consultant Specialist, Dassault Systemes

Waruna Maddumage: PhD Researcher, Queen Mary University of London

Waruna is a PhD researcher at the School of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London. With a Master of Philosophy degree in Mechanical Engineering and a BSc. in Mechatronics Engineering, he brings an interdisciplinary background to his work. His PhD research centers around the thermal management of traction motors in electric vehicles. Specifically, he focuses on direct oil cooling of hairpin winding motors. Currently, Waruna is engaged in developing 3D multiphase computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models and conducting experimental analyses of single and multi-jet nozzle systems to cool traction motors. His goal is to enhance our understanding of the heat extraction capability of oil-impinging jets, particularly as they relate to the motor end winding. Waruna’s work contributes to the advancement of sustainable transportation solutions, making electric vehicles more efficient and reliable.

Gerald Seider: Managing Director, InDesA

Dr. Seider studied mechanical engineering/aerospace at the Technical University of Aachen and the Virginia Polytechnic Institute on a Fulbright scholarship. He continued his studies after his diploma at the Aerodynamic Institute in Aachen where he received his doctoral degree on the simulation of airfoil aerodynamics.

Changing his field of competence, Dr. Seider continued his career at the BMW AG as a test engineer. There he participated in the development of the first electric/hydraulic controlled automatic transmission. Three years later he joined the central powertrain department for CAE application and built up a team, being responsible for CAE application regarding thermal design and analysis of gasoline engines as well as for cooling systems. At BMW Dr. Seider introduced various new simulation techniques, such as underhood flow simulation, thermal analysis of the core engine using fluid-structure coupling, and cooling system simulation.

Dr. Seider contributed to the development of innovative designs such as the integration of electrical water pumps into the cooling system of the BMW gasoline six cylinder engines as well as the thermal design of the current BMW Turbo V8 engine, where the exhaust system with turbocharger and catalysts is placed inside the V-space between the cylinder heads. This concept has meanwhile been adopted by other car manufactures as well.

Leaving BMW after sixteen interesting years Dr. Seider joined InDesA GmbH in 2008 as executive manager. In preparation for BREXIT, InDesA incorporated its subsidiary InDesA UK Ltd in Leamington Spa, UK in 2019 to better serve customers in the Midlands. Dr. Seider took also over the position as a Director of InDesA UK.

In addition Dr. Seider took over the position as Manager "Simulation and Testing" at IGEL AG in May 2020. The aim is to join competences and forces of IGEL and InDesA to better serve our customers.

Fengyu Zhang: Senior Research Fellow, University of Nottingham

Michael Clapp: Technical Director, Simerics UK Ltd

A Mechanical Engineering graduate from Sheffield University, Michael Clapp has been working with CFD/CAE technology for over 35 years. Starting his career as an early user of FEA and CFD within the UK Nuclear Industry and then moving across to working for a variety of CAE companies helping to train and support hundreds of users of CFD/CAE systems successfully throughout the world prior to joining 80/20 Engineering in 2010. His role as Technical Director here also included leading their advanced CFD/CAE consulting services. Since 80/20 Engineering joined with Simerics, Inc in 2023 he has headed their UK operations. Simerics Ltd is bringing a new generation of CFD technology focused on automation, speed, robustness and accuracy to the UK engineering community. Mike has also been a member of the NAFEMS CFD working group since its formation in 1990’s and authored their “Designers’ Guide to CFD”.

Dr Christopher Price works as a Vehicle Efficiency Functional Lead within Vehicle Efficiency at Jaguar Land Rover. He has a number of years’ experience working across automative thermal system applications from traditional internal combustion engines, through XHEVs to next gen BEVs with a focus on virtual tool development and application.

Peggy Havet: Polymers international coordinator, Valeo Thermal Systems

Peggy is Polymers international coordinator for Valeo Thermal Systems and Senior Expert. After a PhD in mechanics and materials, she joined Valeo in 2000, first in simulation department then in material laboratory. As senior expert and international coordinator, she works closely with Valeo teams, material suppliers and OEM to support innovation around electrical vehicles. She is also involded in Valeo CAP50 sustainability policy, including recycled and low carbon footprint materials.

Vishnuvardhan Ranganathan: Field Application Engineer, Thermoanalytics Europe

Vishnuvardhan Ranganathan is a Field Application Engineer at ThermoAnalytics, Munich where he mainly focuses on development of methodologies in modelling battery thermal management and safety simulations as well as cabin energy optimization in EV. He possess more than 5 years of experience in CFD Simulations for battery and fuel cells. He is graduated from Technical University Braunschweig, Germany in 2018 with a Master’s Degree in Computational Sciences in Engineering.
