Overview
For the third year running, we are excited to host our flagship Engineering Needs Everyone event - a space created to elevate diverse voices, spark honest conversation, and shine a light on the big questions shaping the future of engineering.
What started in 2024 as a celebration to mark the 100-year anniversary of Verena Holmes, the first woman to be elected to IMechE membership, has grown into a platform for deeper reflection on who engineering is for, whose experiences we centre, and how we collectively shape a more inclusive profession and society.
This year’s theme: En Route to Inclusive Transport
The third instalment of this flagship series is titled ‘En Route to Inclusive Transport’. It will explore the role engineers, designers, transport operators and manufacturers, policymakers, advocates, community groups and individuals with lived experience play in creating fairer, more inclusive transport systems.
Our 2026 event focus builds on IMechE’s recent policy report, En Route to Inclusive Public Transport, which highlights the barriers many people face while travelling via public transport in the UK, this event will focus on:
- What prevents our transport system from being truly inclusive?
- What practical steps can engineers, and the wider transport sector take to make travel more inclusive?
- How do we keep momentum and embed inclusive design into everyday practice?
Speakers will share real examples, future-looking ideas and cross-disciplinary perspectives to help us collectively imagine what an inclusive transport system could and should be.
Event location
Join us on 17 March at 1 Wimpole Street, London, W1G 0AE where speakers will discuss the importance of designing for everyone, how to overcome barriers to inclusive design, and how to bring about meaningful change. As spaces are limited and interest is high, we recommend reserving your ticket early. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be streamed live online, and made available to view on demand after the event.
Who is this event for?
Anyone passionate about mobility, inclusion, innovation and social impact: engineers, designers, transport operators and manufacturers, policymakers, advocates, community groups and individuals with lived experience will benefit from the discussions and networking opportunities.
Beyond the discussion
A networking reception and partner exhibition will showcase current innovations, projects and collaborations that are already shaping a more accessible transport landscape.
Accessibility:
For any accessibility needs or general queries, please contact Event Enquiries. The keynote and panel discussions will also be livestreamed and joining instructions will be emailed to all those joining online.
We look forward to welcoming you as we continue building a transport system and an engineering profession that truly works for everyone.
