John Lillington: Chief Technologist, Nuclear Reactors, Jacobs

John has worked for many years within the UK Nuclear Industry, most recently as Chief Technologist, Nuclear Reactors in Jacobs. He graduated in mathematics from the University of London (BSc, PhD) and is a Fellow of the Institutes of Physics and Mathematics (FInstP, FIMA) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng). He has been a part-time lecturer/ external examiner at several UK Universities (Cambridge, Imperial, Birmingham & Surrey) and is an Honorary Professor at Bangor University in the School of Computer Sciences and Electronic Engineering. He has published two books (Elsevier 1995 & 2004) and numerous articles on nuclear power related subjects.

David Brook: Commercial Vehicle Virtual Engineering Project Manager, Ford

Worked at Ford Motor Company Limited for 30 years. Lived in Barnsley in Yorkshire before leaving for university. Graduated from Loughborough University in 1993 following sponsorship by Ford (one company man) and spent 20 years working in Powertrain areas such as engine calibration, emissions and aftertreatment and exhausts. Next 5 years rotating through various departments of PD & Purchasing which culminated in leading the Transit PHEV Pilot Project, working closely with Transport For London & Prodrive Engineering. In 2020 I took on a new role to develop & integrate virtual engineering tools into CV programs.

John Harding: Technical Director, WSP

John Harding is a technical director at WSP one of the largest multi-disciplinary organisations in the world. He combines interests as an architect, urban designer, a researcher, author and advocate for greater inclusivity within transport buildings. John has worked in a variety of organisations working both as a client representative and designer within the transport design, construction and operation sector. His design practice, research and writing work focusses upon addressing inclusive design issues in transport, and how agent based modelling can be used to assess rival designs for inclusivity. John enjoys cycling, yoga, and spending time with family and friends.

Adrian Gaylard: Technical Specialist, Computational Aerodynamics, Jaguar Land Rover

Adrian Gaylard joined British Rail’s Research Division in 1987 with a degree in Physics and Maths from Leicester Polytechnic, moving into aerodynamics in 1989 to apply CFD to rail vehicles and infrastructure. In 1996 he joined MIRA and worked on automotive, wind engineering and sports science aerodynamics projects. Adrian moved to Jaguar Land Rover in 2001 where he is the Technical Specialist for Computational Aerodynamics. Adrian has interests in drag reduction, unsteady aerodynamics, surface contamination and computational aeroacoustics. Adrian is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Physicist, Chair of Vehicle Aerodynamics at the SAE, Chair of the EPSRC National Wind Tunnel Facility Advisory Board and a Board Member of the European Car Aerodynamics Research Association.

Louise Crocker: Senior Research Scientist, NPL

Dr Louise Crocker is involved in finite element analysis (FEA) of a broad range of materials, using the FEA package Abaqus. Research interests include using FEA to improve the understanding of physical experiments, measurement of properties and calculation of parameters suitable for use in FEA and prediction of materials behaviour under a range of loading conditions. She has over 20 years research experience at NPL and is now a Senior Research Scientist. Louise is author or co-author of NPL reports, refereed papers and 5 NPL Measurement Good Practice Guides.

Philip Rogers: Technical Director – Dynamics, Gauging & Testing, SNC-Lavalin

Philip started his career in the rail industry in 1990 with British Rail Research and studied Mechanical Engineering at Loughborough University of Technology (now Loughborough University). He has since worked for AEA Technology Rail, DeltaRail and Interfleet (now SNC-Lavalin), mainly within the field of railway vehicle dynamics. He is an expert in this area and also in railway wheel/rail interaction, with over 26 years of experience in these areas, and 30 plus in the Railway Industry.

Philip has extensive knowledge of railway vehicle dynamic modelling with a wide range of vehicle types. He previously managed and delivered technical support for the world leading Vampire railway vehicle dynamics package, and is now involved in its further development by SNC-Lavalin.

Philip has considerable experience of wheel/rail interaction projects, including projects relating to RCF, special track work and the development of new wheel and rail profiles.

Philip also has experience in the areas of gauging, pantograph/overhead line dynamic modelling, low adhesion and WSP.

Giulio Malinverno: Simulation Engineer, FIMAC SpA

M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineer, 15 years of experience in the simulation of thermomechanical systems. Relevant positions include the current position as a simulation engineer at FIMAC S.p.A., carrying out structural and fluid dynamics analyses of aerospace components, and the previous employment at Advanced Technology Valve S.p.A., as head of numerical analyses dept. and person in charge for structural, fluid dynamic and functional safety analyses of actuated subsea valves. Member of several professional associations (IMechE, RAeS, AIAA, SAE among others), IMechE Fellow, he is the current IMechE Italy group chairman. Chartered engineer in Italy, U.K., Ireland, and New Zealand. NAFEMS Professional Simulation Engineer.

David Heiny: Co-Founder and CEO, SimScale

David Heiny is the Co-Founder and CEO of SimScale. SimScale is a cloud-native simulation platform that empowers every engineer to innovate faster by making high-fidelity engineering simulation truly accessible. David holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics and CSE from Georgia Tech and Technical University Munich.

Samuel Merriman: Engineering Analyst, UKAEA

Sam is a Mechanical Engineer having graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 2012. His experience includes a variety of projects within the Subsea Oil and Gas, and the Nuclear Fusion industries. He has implemented Finite Element Analysis methods for assessment of connection systems, validation of Elasto-Plastic fatigue calculations using full-scale fatigue test data and developed Python based post processing tools. Sam joined the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority in 2016, applying engineering simulation to a variety of challenges from pre-conceptual design of Fusion Power plants to experiment operations. Sam is a Chartered Member of the IMechE.

Dhiraj Nahar: SIMULIA Industry Process Expert Director, Simulia

Dhiraj Nahar has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Arizona State University and has been with DASSAULT SYSTEMES for the last 17 years. Over the years, he has worked in several roles from software development to supporting our WW customers with our integrated modeling and simulation (MODSIM) solutions. Dhiraj and his team understand the requirements of our customers from different industries, understand their As-Is processes, and create solutions providing a robust and reliable design with productivity gains. They help the customer then deploy these processes in multiple departments and across all design programs. They democratize the engineering design processes using the integrated modeling and simulation environment on the Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. Dhiraj has worked for several years in the United States and is now settled in Pune, India.

Jonathan Eyre: Technical Fellow in Digital Twins, AMRC

Jonathan is a Technical Fellow for Digital Twins at the AMRC. He leads a range of specific client work and grant funded projects focusing on visualisation and the connectivity of the data enabling solutions such as digital twins. He is responsible for research across a range of manufacturing delivering solutions and solving specific challenges to understand the value of digital technology through to wider business transformations.

Chuang Wen: Lecturer in Computational Engineering, University of Exeter

Dr Chuang Wen is a Lecturer at the University of Exeter. His major areas of research are clean energies to tackle climate challenges using computational approaches. He has published more than 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Dr Wen was awarded several prestigious fellowships to support his research including Marie Curie Individual Fellowship, H.C. Ørsted Fellowship, SPE Star Fellowship, etc.
