Shahrokh Shahpar: Associate Fellow in Aerothermal Design Systems, Rolls-Royce

Shahrokh is a Rolls-Royce Associate Fellow in Aerothermal Design Systems. Recently moved to the Innovation Hub-Future Methods, where he focuses on development and application of Adjoint based MDO technique for turbo-machinery components. He has a national and international reputation in the field of CFD meshing and automatic aerothermal design optimisation of turbomachinery components and systems, publishing more than 120 internal and external technical papers and hold eight patents. His current research is on uncertainty quantification and robust design. He is a Fellow of the RAeS (Royal Aeronautical Society), Associate Fellow of AIAA. Appointed Visiting Professor at Imperial College Aerospace Engineering department.

Harvey Thompson: Professor of Computational Fluid Dynamics, University of Leeds

Professor Harvey Thompson (HT) FIMechE is Professor of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Head of the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds. He has published over 170 papers in the areas of CFD, Heat Transfer and Multi-disciplinary Design Optimisation (MDO) of engineering products and processes and has collaborated with leading companies in the aerospace, automotive and food sectors. His recent research in CFD-enabled flow optimisation has been focussed in electronics and machine tool cooling systems and is finding application in a range of other biological, chemical and nuclear flow processing systems.

Abdulnaser Sayma: Director of the Thermo-Fluid Research Centre, City University London

Abdulnaser Sayma is a Professor of Energy Engineering at City University of London since 2013. He was a professor of Computational Fluid Dynamics at University of Sussex 2006-2012, a Senior Lecturer of Computational Mechanics at Brunel University 2005-2006, A Research Fellow, Senior Research Fellow and then a principal Research Fellow at Imperial College London 1994-2005. He also held the title of Rolls Royce Research Fellow at Imperial College 2002-2005. He obtained a PhD in Computational Fluid Dynamics from the University of Manchester (UMIST) in 1994, an MSc in Energy Technology for Developing Countries from the University of Salford in 1991 and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Birzeit University, Palestine in 1987. His current research focus is on distributed power generation using micro gas turbines and organic Rankine Cycles, Super Critical Carbon Dioxide cycles, thermal energy storage and concentrated solar power. He has worked on large gas turbines for power generation and jet propulsion publishing work in aerodynamics and aeroelatisicty of compressors and turbines as well as general issues of aerodynamics of gas turbine components and external aerodynamics on aircraft.

Luca Di Mare: Associate Professor, Oxford University

Jochen Broz: Manager System Analysis and Optimization, Advanced Engineering Analysis, BD Engine Systems, Schaeffler Technologies

After receiving his PhD in computational physics from the University of Konstanz in 2002 Jochen Broz joined the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics at Kaiserslautern, Germany. There he worked on the development and application of methods for automated behavioural modelling of multi-physical systems and analytical model-order reduction. He joined Schaeffler Technologies in 2008 as a simulation specialist, where he worked on system simulation of hydromechanical valve trains like UniAir and hydraulic cam phasers. Since 2012 he is department manager for system analysis and optimization. With his team he is responsible for simulation support within the product development processes for thermohydraulic, mechatronic and hydromechanical systems.

Francesco Coletti: CEO, Hexxcell Ltd

Dr. Francesco Coletti is the co-founder and CEO of Hexxcell Ltd, a high-tech Imperial College London spin-out company, and a Senior Lecturer at Brunel University London. Francesco has over twelve years’ experience in research and technology transfer across academia, Fortune 500 and start-up companies. He has published over 70 journal articles and conference proceedings and co-edited the first monograph entirely dedicated to Crude Oil Fouling. He is also the Executive Editor of Heat Exchanger Design Handbook, the Secretary of the UK National Heat Transfer Committee and one of the two elected representative for the UK to the Assembly for International Heat Transfer Conferences. He holds a Laurea degree in Chemical Engineering from Padova University, Italy, an MSc in Process Systems Engineering and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London, UK.

Chuang Wen: Marie Curie Fellow at Faculty of Engineering, University of Nottingham

Chuang Wen is a Marie Curie Individual Fellow at the University of Nottingham. His research interests are the development and application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling for Energy Engineering, including Carbon Capture & Storage, hydrogen fuel cell station, thermal engineering and energy storage. He has published over 50 refereed papers with over 600 citations and an h-index of 16 (Google Scholar).

Roger Cracknell: Technology Expert, Combustion Chemistry, Shell

Roger Cracknell has a PhD in Chemistry from Imperial College. He joined Shell in 1994 following postdoctoral research in Imperial College and Cornell University. In 2015 he was appointed to the role of Technology Expert for Combustion Chemistry within Shell. Roger has authored over 150 refereed conference and journal papers. He is a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Visiting Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds, and Honorary Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. He is also a member of the International Board of Directors of the Combustion Institute.

Jun Xia: Senior Lecturer in Advanced Mechanical Engineering, Brunel University London

David Bridge: Senior Consultant in Thermal Systems Engineering, HORIBA MIRA

Graduated in 1983 with degree in Physics from University of Warwick and in 1986 with a PhD in Physics. Joined Federal-Mogul an American automotive parts supplier. Here he was a Technical Specialist supporting their worldwide vehicle heat management and component protection businesses. He joined HORIBA MIRA in 2002 and is a Senior Consultant in Thermal Systems Engineering. His focus is on whole vehicle heat management and occupant thermal comfort using 3D modelling techniques. He is also experienced in vehicle development and testing. More recently he has worked in the area of battery thermal management, supporting internal and external customers in developing prototype vehicle battery packs.
