Webinar, Online
Manufacturing of light
weight designs enabling long ranges and delivering perceived quality to
specifications without sacrificing cost.
Overview
Lightweight body structures, engines and drives are key to obtain an optimal EV performance and maximum range. However, manufacturing car designs with lightweight materials is a challenge for meeting tolerance requirements and final perceived quality, imposes significant try-out costs and additionally poses significant risks for over-spending in the try-out phase. To meet customer’s high demands, minimize cost and keep cost within specifications, OEMs must ensure class leading craftsmanship and operational performance of manufacturing processes.
With manufacturing process & assembly simulation you can virtually manage key manufacturing & assembly processes, inspect virtually perceived quality, and thus secure virtually the entire fabrication process. It is the enabler to manufacture attractive, light weight, flexibly assembled electric vehicles and ultimately provide the highest quality possible.
In this webinar we will discuss how virtual prototyping can help engineers virtually manage key manufacturing and assembly processes – in a timely manner - based on accurate modelling.
Key topics:
- Aligning lightweight manufacturing processes with high quality design constraints
- Inspecting outer panels virtually to ensure the target perceived quality of the vehicle
- Securing key manufacturing & assembly processes to minimize try-out costs and avoid over-spending in the try-out phase

Harald Porzner: Director, Virtual Manufacturing, ESI Group
Harald
Porzner is the director of market strategy & business development for the
Virtual Manufacturing Solution department at ESI Group. For more than 25 years
he has supported ESI in its mission of gradually replacing real tests with
virtual/digital tests and providing prototypes for product development and
(pre-) certification (PLM), and for in-service performance, maintenance and retirement
(PPL).
Throughout
his career, he was specialist for design and finite element based validation of
composite designs, and managed his own company Visual Analysis, dedicated to
mathematical & finite element analysis of manufacturing processes. He was manager
of a center of excellence for virtual welding and heat treatment, product
manager of the market leader for virtual stamping validation, PAM-STAMP, and
director of product management for the manufacturing solutions of ESI.
In more
than 500 industry projects he work hand in hand with many ICT partners and
strategic industrial customers through innovative engineering services and
co-creation projects.
Eric Kam: Product Marketing and Community Manager, ESI Group
Eric Kam is the Smart Factory Solution Strategist and
Immersive Experience Community Manager for ESI Group; supporting their Immersive Experience
(Virtual Reality) solution IC.IDO. He is an outspoken advocate for ongoing
digital transformation in Computer Aided Design, Finite Element Analysis, and
Computer Aided Engineering. He has spent the bulk of his 20+ year Mechanical
Engineering career promoting the democratization of previously “analyst driven”
simulation technologies to bring the benefit of Virtual Engineering tools to
engineering and manufacturing practitioners themselves.
