Overview
The Alastair Graham-Bryce Memorial Lecture is an annual evening event presented by the Institution’s Manufacturing Industries Division (MID). This year’s lecture will be given by incoming MID chair Ian Joesbury, and will explore the burgeoning role that Artificial Intelligence in playing in manufacturing, and the wider engineering profession.
Many believe that AI will transform their working and home lives. This hybrid lecture is a personal view about how AI may impact careers for young engineers in the future, including some discussion on how AI works, it’s strengths and, it’s limitations.
The lecture will take place in person at Cranfield University, as well as being broadcast live online, and available to view on demand.

Ian Joesbury: Chair, IMechE Manufacturing Industries Division
Ian has spent his career in high technology engineering environments, working for a number of major companies including Ford, Lucas Industries and Meggitt.
He is currently a non-executive director at the Manufacturing Technology Centre, CEO of the charity Exovent and teaches at Aston University. Formerly President of the Meggitt's Polymers & Composites division, he has also run technology start ups and worked in consulting.
Within the IMechE he will be chair of the Manufacturing Industries Division from May 2024 and has previously been chair of the Management Group, Honorary Treasurer and a Vice President of the IMechE.
